Green schools is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes whole school action towards a sustainable environment. Our Green schools committee this year was solely made up of TY students. The school is aiming and working towards our 3rd green flag which is the transport flag. The aim is to decongest the town and stop the over use of cars and encourage walking. We decided to have a launch day to promote walking to school. We organised 4 stops around the different corners of the town where students could be dropped off to walk to school. This turned out to be a very fun event, chatting to your friends along the way and enjoying the fresh air and exercise in the morning. Many students commented on how much they enjoyed it. After the walk we rewarded every student who took part with hot chocolate and lemon drizzle cake. Also the students were allowed to wear PE uniform throughout the day and this was very appealing. Ever since this launch day, every Wednesday students continue to go to these stops and walk to school led by the TY students. This is successful and we are continuing to work towards the green flag.
